The Cry for Women’s Protection in Karnataka: The Need for 50% Reservation and Citizen Awareness

Bengaluru: Cases of atrocities against women are increasing in Karnataka, and the recent horrific incident near Bengaluru’s Bidadi has shocked society. In this case, which came to light after the post-mortem examination, a 14-year-old deaf girl, who was kidnapped from Bhadrapura, was brutally gang-raped by more than four individuals, subjected to cigarette burns, her bones were broken, and she was killed. This incident highlights the negligence and failure of the administration. Even after horrific incidents like the Nirbhaya case in Delhi, the non-functioning and unmonitored status of CCTV cameras is appalling. It is unfortunate that such incidents continue to recur despite advancements in technology.

Widespread Outrage on Social Media:

There is widespread outrage on social media regarding the Bidadi incident. Citizens are extensively sharing this issue, demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators. Questions like, “Is there no concern for the atrocities against female children, while there is so much concern for caste and language? Where is our society heading?” are prevalent on social media. Additionally, the public is questioning, “If such an incident had happened to the daughter of an official or a politician, how swiftly would action have been taken?”

The Need for 50% Reservation:

In this context, demands are rising for providing women with 50% reservation in administration and the constitution. The existing protective measures have failed to provide adequate protection for women. Many believe that if women have greater representation in governance, they can bring about effective reforms for the protection and welfare of women.

Strict Action Against Misdeeds in Society:

Across the country, individuals who harass women on streets, near colleges, and at bus stops, as well as those who engage in sexual harassment, should be immediately identified, and their names should be published on the social media platforms of the police department. Society should be aware that such individuals exist among us. Stringent action should be taken against those who commit these misdeeds, and they must be hanged to death.

Citizen Responsibility:

This is the time for every citizen to take pride in being a protector of Bharat Mata. By ethically using social media, we must strive to bring this issue to the highest level and ensure swift justice. The perpetrators must be identified and hanged without mercy. Public trust in the system must be restored; otherwise, there is a risk of losing faith in the constitution.

It is the duty of every citizen to ensure the safety of any woman or girl walking on the street. Every woman should be protected as if she were our own mother.

Despite the fact that incidents like the Nirbhaya case in Delhi and the Saujanya case in Dharmasthala shook the nation, the occurrence of such incidents in a city considered safe like Bengaluru is shocking.

Demand for Immediate Action:

The government and relevant authorities must understand the gravity of this issue and take immediate action for the protection of women and children. Stringent laws should be enacted and strictly enforced to prevent the increasing atrocities against women in society.
